The woman who didn’t know she changed my life

If someone told me a few years back that one day I will become a belly dancer, I would have laughed so hard. Most of my life I was pretty lazy. Even as a kid I did everything I could to avoid school trips, and the PE teacher didn’t even know my name.

By the age of 30 I had all I ever wanted including a perfect job in an animation studio. But something was missing. Luckily, at my position I had a lot of spare time. It was before Facebook, so I spent most of it on YouTube.

A fatal YouTube search

One day I got bored and started typing random nonsense into the YouTube search box. I was on my goth period so I typed “Gothic” and looked for another word that will be the absolute opposite of that. the words “belly dance” came to my mind,  all glittery and pink, so I added them and clicked the search button.

How surprised I was when I got dozen of results! I played the first video on the list and was immediately hypnotized. A mysterious figure appeared on stage. Her elaborated costume was unfamiliar, almost alien, and carried me to the realms of Science fiction and fantasy I love so much.

Dark goddess

She was a dark goddess rising from the ocean, moving in impossible combinations of flow and abruptness, gentleness and strength, freedom and punctuality.

The music was a dark electronic song and it was the first time I was exposed to such an option.

the experience was so so inspiring that inside me a new dream was born. Suddenly I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to dance like her! Me, with my unfit body, my insecurity and my stage fright – I will be a dancer.

From couch to stage

I started to research. This one video opened a door to a whole new world. At the time there weren’t any teachers in Israel for the style of dance I fell in love with, so I had to learn through DVD’s I ordered from Amazon.

Slowly, alternative styles of belly dance started to develop in Israel so I had more and more possibilities to learn. I’ve quit my job and started performing and teaching.

California dream

On May 2012 I traveled to US in order to participate at Tribal Fest. It was a dream come true, to learn from my favorite dancers and share the stage with them. and there, In the crowd, I saw a familiar face. it was the woman from that first video. I went to her and said: “you’re Sashi, right? you don’t know me but you changed my life.”

Sharon Mitzy Sheen with Sashi

It was great to meet my muse face to face, and she was happy to hear my story. I came back home even more inspired than before. I hope I would meet Sashi again on my travels!

So this is my first post on my new blog. I felt it was symbolic to start this new project in the point where it all began. I would be happy to hear your stories. How and when did you start dancing? who is your inspiration? you are welcome to share your answers here, on the comments.

It is similar to magic, generating your display undoubtedly seems clearer and much better.
Then, return to cydia and search for that application to eventually install it into your iPhone 4.
Yes! jailbreak is an easy and safe too.
